6th Annual African Arts in the Park 2010

MillerDANCE will be performing on August 14, 2010 from 11:00 - 11:30 in the Dance and Cultural Hut in West Park on Pittsburgh's North Side.

UMOJA African Arts in the Park presents:

6th Annual African Arts in the Park 2010
"Many Cultures, One Community"

Saturday, August 14, 2010 & Sunday, August 15, 2010
11am to 7pm
Allegheny Commons Park, Pittsburgh, PA

Participants will have the opportunity to view and hear African Art presentations through live stage music; a browse through the vendor marketplace; stop at booths for demonstration of an art form, such as head wrapping or drum-making; or perhaps take part in an interactive workshop such as poetry or spoken word. The festival will bring a variety pf African artists and organizations together for two days of celebration and the opportunity to share and demonstrate traditional African and African influenced genres of art. Imagine over 5,000 attendees including mysterious stilt-walkers, invigorating steel drummers, expressive African dancers and storytellers weaving tales, and strolling sogows (life-sized African puppets). It's an awesome visual...isn't it?

Performance tour to Mumbai

A collaboration with Namita Bodaji

Early 2011

MillerDANCE received an amazing offer from our good friend Namita Bodaji, who has invited us to be part of an exciting cultural exchange. MillerDance will travel to Mumbai, India to perform in January or February of 2011, and Namita and her company will perform in Pittsburgh in June 2011. The collaborative work will focus on three rivers in the north of India and the confluence of three rivers here in Pittsburgh. Namita and Mary feel that with two countries, two cities and six rivers, there is much to explore about the confluences at each of their cities and to represent through dance two cultural viewpoints of the power of rivers.

Act now to support MillerDANCE in its tour to India!
